If you ever get to Raleigh, North Carolina, be sure and include time for a couple of hours at the North Carolina Museum of Art. while it may not be the Met, it may very well be the best in the Southeastern U.S. Solid collection. The enthralling exhibits range from Egypt to the European masters through several ages up to modern art. Not to mention, wings of African and Judiac art. There are 160 acres with walking/bicycle paths that lead to larger outdoor works that “explore the intersection of art and nature. And, for the frugal, best of all, its free. Housed in two unimposing buildings: west building is permanent collection; east wing mostly traveling. One exhibit at the moment were four Imperial size Audubon volumes.
